This year I’ve spent the Christmas Party season as resident DJ at Burley Manor Barns.
I really enjoy working at this wonderful location and the events team treat me like one of their own.
The barn looks great following an extensive refurb by New Forest Hotels and was venue of choice for corporate parties for local companies like Dutton Gregory and Southampton Freight Services.
One of the nice things about evenings like these is the relaxed atmosphere. As a DJ you don’t feel pressure to make people dance because if the guests prefer to talk instead it’s because they’re happy amongst friends and they usually flood the dance floor when they realise the time is running out. Quite often someone from the company will apologise for the lack of action on the dancefloor but a good DJ knows that with groups of 50-60 people sometimes you are merely an option and the best you can do is provide a good atmosphere until they are ready to start moving.
But the best night I had was with a group of just 36 who danced from the moment they finished their coffee until the end of the night where one of the company directors insisted on shaking my hand after an enjoyable night..
P.S – it was really nice to get this email on Monday morning too!
